Poignant and rousing, this blog opened my eyes to the plight of mentally challenged children and their families. It takes an amazing amount of determination to deal with the hardships, and it is simply inspiring to see the blog author Michael encourage his son Cory to achieve his dream.

BLOGWATCH: Coconuter

One of the first things that struck me upon reading his blog was a sort of parallelism that I saw in his life to mine. We are both on a journey, though moving in opposite directions. David had a point when he said in his introduction “Almost every Filipino wants to get out of the Philippines”, but I would want to stress on almost- because not everyone here wants to “run away from a diseased third world country”. I could elaborate on it further, but I would digress.

Few people would actually go out and do something radical with their lives to find meaning- and for that I applaud him. For a Filipino-American with an impressive resume, it can almost be perceived as “crazy” for him to leave the comfortable life behind to embark on a journey to find his roots.

His blog tells of his travels, ideas, and experiences. There are a lot of photos (some of them quite good) and poignant narratives. Did he finally find what he was searching for? I’ll definitely stick around to see how his journey turns out. Click here to view his site.

Graphics -- Nudity seems an absolute in any presentation by gays. Could be the testosterone reacting to repression, because straight guys aren't this obsessive. Well, if a blog expresses you, express.

Content -- He's in the season of life for kalandian, but here and there are flashes of intellect and the fact that he didn't go to diploma mill schools. Hey, he reads Neruda!

Style -- Effusive as gays come, but honest. We'll say this for Thadie, he has a raw talent for narrative and seeing drama in everyday events. Mass communication could be in his future, with some ironing out of rough edges.

Recommend -- Less layout clutter, please.

Overall rating -- 8.5

BLOGWATCH: JoshMeAndMyDoves

A truly unique blog that features a lot of artworks. Most of his posts are about doves, art, and religion (no wonder, since in our country the influence of Catholicism runs deep). I remember those times at the Kolehiyo ng Arkitektura (hehe!) when I would spend hours and hours doing watercolor paintings at Melchor Hall. This guy inspires me to use art, once again as a medium of expression.

He posts his original artworks as well. Here are some of them:

I love the use of colors. What is amazing about art, as much as photography or modeling, is its ability to convey emotions without words. That is amazing ; ) Makes me want to pick up that brush and stop blogging hehe.. But I love you guys so much, I’ll probably stick around.

Speaking of art, I would just want to share my favorite painter of all time (next to Josh ; ) – Francisco DeGoya. He is a Spanish painter, and is known for his brooding, powerful, and disturbing works called The Black Paintings. You’re probably going to think I’m a weirdo, but I just love the intensity of it. See the madness in Saturn’s eyes in “Saturn Devouring One of His Children”? How about the eeriness of “Witches Sabbath”? I tried copying some of them but just ended up smearing black ink on my watercolor paper. I’m no Goya.

BLOGWATCH: Misterhubs

My day won’t be complete without checking this blog. Well written and wonderfully entertaining, his entries will have you giggling at his hilarious critiques (like on this year’s Fashion Week), funny recounts of Philippines Next Top Model episodes, and a fresh spin on mundane everyday things (I can never forget Misterhubs Does Number Two—a classic ; )

This guy is obsessed with Leandro Okabe (who isn’t?), and religiously updates the eye-candy’s latest pics. Don’t miss posts like “Rejected Album Titles” and “The KASOLAH”, or the priceless “Local Celebrities and their Animal Look-alikes.” He covers a longer list of topics than Celine Dion’s cathedral-length veil.
